Preparation of a fire development scenario for a building – design documentation

Under § 5(3) of the Regulation of the Minister of the Interior and Administration of 5 August 2023 (Journal of Laws 2023, item 1563), the technical design for buildings in which fire-protection devices are planned must obligatorily include a fire development scenario. It is a key engineering design document whose purpose is to demonstrate that the technical solutions used in the building ensure effective fire detection, alarming, efficient evacuation and the correct activation and interaction of all fire-protection devices under conditions of a real emergency.

What should a fire scenario contain?

  • A detailed characterisation of the fire and its development over time
  • A description of the operating principle and integration of SSP, DSO, sprinklers, smoke control and fire dampers
  • The chronology of activation of automatic and manual devices in matrix control logic
  • Response times and precise threshold values (e.g. temperature, smoke density)
  • An analysis of conditions and calculation of the time available for safe evacuation

For whom is it required?

A fire scenario must be prepared for facilities in which the following are designed:

  • Fire alarm system (SSP)
  • Smoke-control or fire-ventilation systems
  • DSO – voice alarm system
  • Sprinkler, deluge and other extinguishing systems
